What needs to be clarified
Assess comparability of paper and digital signatures, effects of capture and rendering, and the additional samples needed for a justified handwriting comparison.
Materials to prepare
- The original paper document bearing the signature
- Original digital signature files and dynamic data if retained
- Known paper samples and tablet, stylus and software details
What to compare
Compare elements, connections and layout against ordinary variation. Check scaling, smoothing and digital sampling, recording which coordinates, timing and pressure actually survive. Do not equate paper pressure with screen-line thickness or infer missing dynamics from a static image as measured features.
Possible outcome of the analysis
A suitability assessment may list comparable features and technical distortions; the writer question may remain unresolved until suitable samples are obtained.
Limits of the conclusions
A signature image cannot replace original dynamic data. Handwriting comparison does not automatically verify cryptographic signatures, signing authority or the legal validity of a document or transaction.
