Practical steps for preparing the original, copies and comparison specimens.

Material to help prepare for an examination

Preparation begins by identifying the disputed document element: a signature, entry, numerical mark, date or amount. It is advisable to preserve the original without adding marks or folds.

Examination requires comparison specimens: documents signed or written by the person in ordinary conditions, preferably from a similar period.

Describe the document and the question about the signature or handwriting

State which document is to be examined, whether the original exists, which specimens are available and why the report is needed: court, a notary, an inheritance dispute, a corporate dispute or a pretrial claim.
